How to fall back in love with your cleaning routine

Scrubbing, wiping, dusting, polishing – doesn’t sound like a particularly fun Saturday afternoon, does it? Whilst these tasks can be repetitive and monotonous, they don’t have to be. In fact, they can be rewarding and, can you believe it, fun!

So, how do we take these chores and turn them into a task that you’ll look forward to? By changing up your routine with a few hacks, tips and good old fashioned home remedies, your cleaning routine doesn’t have to be so boring anymore.

Elin Swain, Managing Director of premier cleaning agency Domestic Innovations, is here to share her secrets into falling in love with your cleaning routine again.

Embrace home remedies

One of the big burdens of cleaning is spending money on expensive products that leave you to do all the work. A great way to avoid this is to take it back to basics with homemade cleaning products. A good homemade cleaning remedy will cost a fraction of the price and more often than not, leave you with better results.

Try it for yourself – to make a kitchen surface cleaner, simply combine 1 cup of rubbing alcohol, 1 cup of water, the juice of 1 lemon and 1 tablespoon of white wine vinegar in a spray bottle and voila, spotless surfaces in minutes.

Stay organised

An organised, tidy home is much easier to clean than a messy one. So to make those weekend chores a little easier, make sure everything is put in the correct place so that any surfaces or floors are ready to be cleaned.

Elin Swain says, “There’s nothing worse than a bath with a million shampoos, conditioners and soaps decorating the sides. By investing in a shower caddy, your bath will be ready for a quick clean at all times. Just make sure to put those empty bottles in the bin as soon as they’re empty”.

Learn the art of stain removal

Stain removal – the bane of everyone’s cleaning routine. But fear not,a stain need not be a fearsome beast that cannot be tackled, in fact, they’re pretty easy to remove if you know how.

For stained whites, simply soak the items in warm water with a few added tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide. Not only will the solution make your whites whiter, but it will save you from spending your afternoon scrubbing away. Believe us, your hands will thank you later.

Remember why you’re doing it

Cleaning isn’t just a task sent your way to ruin your afternoon, it’s there to keep you and your family healthy and safe. For example, did you know that the average person sheds up to 10g of skin per week? That’s a shocking 18kg in a lifetime! Now, imagine if you didn’t clean all of that up? Or don’t…that’s not a nice thought.
