Holly Alderson, Out of Eden

From plastics to palm oil, 2018 has certainly seen a huge demand for environmentally-friendly and sustainably sourced products and produce such as food, cosmetics, and packaging. For international businesses all the way to independent B&Bs, this has resulted in a huge pressure to deliver green alternatives…

From toiletries, to tea bags, to toilet roll, everything you offer your guests in this day and age has the ability to be made greener. That’s why, at Out of Eden, we provide a wide range of environmentally-friendly products and work closely with eco-conscious brands to ensure our customers receive only the very best for their business. So, with 2019 just around the corner, and new year’s resolutions at the ready, what better time to instil some more eco-friendly products into your luxury B&B? With the cool winter season in full swing, this month we’re taking a look at some of the hottest sustainable beverage options – pardon the pun – for you and your guests to enjoy.

A tea that ticks all the boxes

At the end of October, Clipper announced the exciting launch of the world’s first plastic-free, non-GM (genetically modified) and unbleached tea bag. While, typically, most conventional tea bags contain a plastic sealant to hold the bag together and use a bleaching method to enhance the appearance of the paper, Clipper have paved the way for a new type of tea entirely with these brand-new tea bags. Due to being free from plastic and harsh chemicals, Clipper also shared that the new paper is fully biodegradable and even compostable, ticking all of those essential boxes for your eco-minded guests.

Since 1984, Clipper have continuously changed the way we see, buy and drink tea, from being the UK’s first Fairtrade tea company back in 1994, to ensuring all of their tea bags are plastic free in 2018. Whether your guests have a taste for everyday breakfast tea or string & tag peppermint, lemon & ginger, or earl grey teas, you can find an impressive range of Clipper teas guaranteed to suit every guest over at Out of Eden.

Coffee with credentials

Also pioneers of sustainable refreshments are Café Express, who offer superior-tasting coffee while maintaining their Fairtrade values. Ideal for those looking for a certified coffee without compromising on quality, the Fairtrade stamp of approval ensures that the quality coffee has been produced by small-scale farmer organisations or plantations that adhere to Fairtrade social, economic and environmental standards.

Café Express are also fully Rainforest Alliance certified, a non-profit organisation that endeavours to conserve biodiversity and ensure sustainable livelihoods, an initiative which we, and many of our customers, are passionate about supporting.

Available in their original or decaffeinated options, the freshly ground coffee is packaged in a disposable filter bag, giving your guests great, freshly brewed coffee away from home.

Going green in your business is not something you can do overnight, but by offering your guests sustainable alternatives, you’re doing your bit in reducing the plastic problem and prioritising Fairtrade products.
